Use a Portable Dog Kennel to Save Space

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Thousands of people use the regular “old-school” dog kennels that take up tons of space, both in a car and at home… and have them set up there to “kennel train” your animals. These types of kennels are hard to store and hard to navigate around if you have to put them in the middle of the floor or in the car for travel. Portable dog kennels can alleviate these problems.

Portable kennels can come in a variety of sizes and styles and are relatively inexpensive. Most portable dog kennels are now collapsible which means they are easy to store and easy to set up. With just a flick of your wrist, your portable dog kennel is ready to go. If you kennel train your pet, the kennel can be put up and taken down at your convenience just as easily as it was put up.

The Afghan – The King of the Dog World

Are you a fan of royalty? The Afghan Hound, often called the king of the dog world, is known for its beauty and elegance.

Afghan HoundThe Afghan Hound has keen eyesight and was originally bred to hunt game as a sight hound. However, because of the nomadic life of the Afghan and Pakistan tribes that created the Afghan breed, it continued to evolve until it became a multi-purpose helper. The Afghan is one of the few dog breeds that can hunt game, herd sheep and protect its home with equal skill.

Today, this member of the American Kennel Club’s hound group excels in obedience, as well. The Afghan Hound weighs fifty to sixty pounds and stands between twenty four and twenty eight inches high.

These dogs have a long coat on the lower half of their bodies and a shorter coat on their chest and back. They are known for their elegant topknots.

This breed can come in any color or combination of colors, but white markings are considered unfavorable. The Afghan has long ears covered in sleek hair. This breed’s dark eyes have an Oriental appearance. Afghan Hounds are graceful and regal, but they are also powerful, energetic dogs, bred to endure rigorous conditions.

Review of Bull Mastiffs

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Bull Mastiffs are a breed originating from England. They are a cross between a Mastiff and a Bulldog; and were developed to work with the law to track down, tackle and hold poachers. The dogs are fierce and threatening to criminals.

Bull Mastiffs were also prized as hunting guards and as an aid in army and police work. Today’s Bull Mastiff is a reliable family companion and guardian. This breed is a member of the American Kennel Club’s Working Group.

The Bull Mastiff is a very powerful dog, and although they have a big stature, the size is not too cumbersome. With a broad wrinkled head and fairly short, square, dark muzzle, the breed stands from twenty-five to twenty-seven inches in height. The female dog is from twenty-four to twenty-six inches. The weight is 110-133 pounds, with the female weighing in at 100 –120 pounds.

Pros and Cons of Electronic Dog Fences

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Is a wireless fence for dogs the right choice for you?

Electronic fences are a control device. That said, these fences can be a blessing or a curse – not only for the dog but for the human as well. An ‘electronic fence’ is a set of devices, usually underground wire and transmitters, that deliver a noise, shock or unpleasant spray via a collar to a dog approaching the boundary. The wire is buried a foot or so under the ground along a perimeter of 500-1000 feet and as the dog approaches it a signal is sent to the collar, activating the deterrent.

Wireless fences are expensive, but some Home Owners Association rules or city ordinances forbid regular fences leaving few options. Useful for those who want to avoid or can’t erect a regular front yard fence, it becomes even more desirable for those with no back yard fence at all.

The potential downsides, though, are many.
